HazMat Response, Town of Dudley, Mace Adhesives, 38 Roberts Rd. - 1/11/05
On January 11, 2005 The Webster Rescue Squad was requested for Mutual aid to the town of Dudley at Mace Adhesives on remote Roberts Rd. During a routine check of the building, there was a smokey haze throughout the building believed to be from chemicals reacting in an unsecure 55 gallon drum. Upon assessing the situation it was determined that prior to any entry into the building, the Southbridge Fire Department would be contacted to respond with their Decontamination (MDU) Trailer to decontaminate any personnel that enter the building and possibly come in contact with any chemicals. Following entry into the building by two Dudley Firefighters along with a thermal camera, the drum was secured and it was determined any reaction that had taken place was since completed. The thermal camera brought into the building had the ability to transmit its image back to Rescue 3 so it could be monitored by Incident commander, Dudley Fire Chief Laurent McDonald. Following the securing of the drum and the precautionary decontamination of the entry team, the building was turned back over to its owner and crews began to pick up.
